We are pleased to welcome Starlight Children's Foundation as a Ground Zero Gaming partner, where we are excited to utilise our position as a powerhouse in Australian esports to deliver happiness to sick kids and teens through the exhilarating world of video games and esports.
As part of the partnership, Ground Zero Gaming will be supporting Starlight’s vital hospital services, including Starlight Express Rooms and Starlight’s adolescent program, Livewire, by providing fun prizes, online competitions, and hosting gaming workshops with our esports legends.
Ground Zero Gaming will also support Starlight’s Wishgranting program, which provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences to sick kids and their families; and be a part of Starlight’s GameChangers 2020 online fundraising challenge.
Our CEO, Beau Melia, feels that the Australian esports industry has unparalleled engagement from the Gen Z demographic, something which resonates with Starlight’s core focus.
“As the broadest reaching charity in Australia, Starlight plays a significant part in bringing joy and laughter to sick kids every day. As we all adjust to a ‘new normal’ in our lives, this role has become even more important, to help these kids work through feelings of fear and isolation,” he said.
“Esports has the unique ability to engage with audiences anywhere, and at any time – making it the perfect tool to provide fun, positive distractions for sick kids. Our partnership with Starlight will help these kids to participate, hone their skills, and interact with other kids, while generating awareness to the fantastic work that Starlight do.”
Starlight Partnerships Manager, Tracey Tomlin said: “Every minute of every day, a child is admitted to hospital in Australia. At Starlight we know happiness matters, especially to children facing the unimaginable challenges of serious illness.
“The work Starlight does to bring happiness to sick kids and teens in children’s hospitals nationally is only made possible by the generosity of the community, and we’re incredibly appreciative to GZ Gaming’s support. Gaming is already hugely popular within the Starlight Express Room and on livewire.org.au, and so we’re so excited to see the positive impact this new partnership will bring to Starlight families. Game on!” she said.
This will be Starlight’s first ever partnership with an esports organisation, and we are so incredibly excited to bring happiness to sick kids and teens through games.
